GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) is a general term for a collection of devices used to locate objects within materials, typically in applications where visual inspection is impractical. GPR is often used to locate underground objects, but it’s also used on manmade structures. Its basic operation is to emit and receive the signals that reflect off of subsurface objects. GPRS uses GPR to scan concrete for objects such as rebar, or to locate utilities. GPRS does not use GPR for geophysical or geological purposes. Use of a GPR in conjunction with other devices can provide reliable information to prevent injuries or costly downtime on construction sites, among other uses for GPR.
